To change misperceptions of Ragu as an inauthentic, American creation, we unearthed the brand’s unknown origin story. Against all odds, Assunta Cantisano, the brand’s Italian female founder started making and selling her now famous sauce during the Great Depression. Ragu’s inspirational female founder & surprising heritage significantly strengthened brand perceptions and reversed years-long sales declines.
